From The Ground Up
Roots by Design began with two friends — Kellen Bello and Maui Acantilado — both born and raised on the Big Island of Hawai‘i.
Growing up surrounded by island music, roots reggae, and the spirit of aloha, they developed a deep love for music that carries message, emotion, and soul.
After years of performing in various bands and pursuing their own solo projects, fate brought them together in Las Vegas in 2019.
Their instant connection over roots reggae and conscious sound sparked something special — a shared vision to build a band that would spread positivity and island vibration everywhere they played.
From that moment, Roots by Design (RBD) was born.
They began searching for other like-minded musicians who shared the same drive, passion, and respect for the craft.
The group soon grew into a full band, blending the spiritual pulse of roots reggae with soulful harmonies and a modern edge.
Since their formation, Roots by Design has performed across Nevada, California, and Hawai‘i, bringing their message of unity, love, and good energy to every stage.
Playing small local gigs at first, Roots by Design found their magic on stage. Crowds didn’t just hear the music — they felt it. Whether it was a packed night at The George, a sunset session at Pure Aloha Festival, or a backyard jam where the vibes were pure, RBD turned every stage into a community.
Their sound carried the heartbeat of reggae, the soul of roots, and the power of message-driven music. They weren’t chasing trends — they were building a foundation.
Now, RBD is setting their sights even higher — ready to expand their reach worldwide, connecting hearts through rhythm, and continuing to make music from the soul, built from the ground up.
